This cartridge was fired as part of the salute during Captain Nichola Goddard’s interment at the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa. She was the first female Canadian soldier to be killed in Afghanistan.

Goddard was killed in battle on May 17, 2006, while directing artillery fire from a forward position.
