Sergeant William MacDonald wore these boots during the battle for the White School complex in Panjwaii, Kandahar.

A large Taliban force pinned down 14 Canadians, killing 4 and injuring 7. MacDonald ran over exposed ground to help the wounded and led the fighting until reinforcements arrived.

He was awarded the Star of Military Valour for his actions.
