Private Henry Norwest, from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, of French-Canadian and Cree ancestry, served three years at the front with the 50th Canadian Infantry Battalion. A skilled sniper and courageous soldier who was awarded the Military Medal twice, Norwest fought through the Amiens battle, but was killed in action on August 18, 1918.
