Able Seaman George Boyer served on several ships involved in protecting merchant vessels against German U-boat (submarine) attacks in the Atlantic.

This was the primary role of the Royal Canadian Navy. There could be no invasion of Europe — or extended campaigns in other theatres of war — without military supplies from North America.
