Canadian War Museum

Architectural Design

The Canadian War Museum emerges modestly from the riverside landscape. Reaching toward Parliament Hill, it sweeps to a height of 24.5 metres, framing the Peace Tower.
Regeneration, the theme that unifies the design, was inspired by art works, photographs of ordinary Canadians fighting in wasted foreign landscapes and nature itself. Nature endures the devastation brought upon by human conflict and not only survives it, but also regenerates and creates new life.

The project's architectural team is composed of Raymond Moriyama of Moriyama & Teshima Architects of Toronto and Alex Rankin of Griffiths Rankin Cook of Ottawa.
